Admixtures Part One – Water-Reducing Admixture

Admixtures can be natural or man-made chemicals that are added to concrete during the batching process or during the mix process while on site.  The four most common admixtures used in ready mix concrete are water-reducers, plasticizers, accelerators and air-entraining agents.  In this four-part series we will look at these admixtures, how they’re used and when they may be appropriate for your commercial or residential concrete project.

Water Reducing Admixture

Arrow Lakes Ready Mix is proud to offer Master Builders, BASF products for all our chemical admixtures.  MasterSet DELVO is a high-quality admixture that “retards setting time by controlling the hydration of Portland cement and other cementitious materials while facilitating placing and finishing operations.”

How Can MasterSet DELVO Work For You?

Summer months bring higher ambient temperatures, and with those higher temperatures concrete hardens more rapidly.  In addition, the West Kootenay’s can bring logistical challenges where concrete needs to be long-hauled to service rural area construction for both residential and commercial operations.  By adding a water-reducing admixture, Arrow Lakes Ready mix can provide their clients flexibility in hot weather, and long-haul situations for placing and finishing operations, offset the effects of slump loss during extended delays between mixing and placing, and increase compressive and flexural strength.

“MasterSet DELVO meets ASTM C 494/C 494M requirements for Type B, retarding, and Type D, water-reducing and retarding admixtures.”
